Debi Watson joins the Christian Job Corps (CJC) of Kendall County as Development Director starting 10 July. In this role, she will help the greater Boerne community understand Christian Job Corps' importance, services, and clients. Debi will focus on developing relationships with local employers, driving awareness and recruitment of new students, and establishing new ways to support the mission financially.
"We are excited to have Debi join CJC. She understands our community, our client base, the business connections, and what CJC needs to bring it to another level of service. Her work experience and non-profit background are invaluable, but even better, she has a heart for the CJC mission," says Lynn Heckler, CJC's Executive Director.
While Debi calls Texas home, she lived in several states growing up in a military family. She is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio and of the University of Texas at Austin. Debi is a seasoned professional with a background in leadership, education, and training. She began a financial services career in San Antonio, working first in service and training, and then as a Director. She relocated with her husband to Seattle for 13 years where she received a Master's degree in adult education and training from Seattle University. She had a successful 25-year career in corporate America all the while donating her personal time to support her true passion for non-profit work. She lists the Boerne Community Theatre Board of Directors and time volunteering with Meadowlands, Hill Country Pregnancy Center, Hill Country Daily Bread, and CJC as just some of her community involvement. Outside our community, Debi spent time in the mission fields in Arizona and Africa.
With her love for helping others, training, and project/program management, Debi has decided to use her skills and experience to serve the non-profit arena full-time. The shift will allow Debi the opportunity to work in her own community while spending time that is more personal with her family. Given her passion for the Christian Job Corps as a volunteer teacher, her expertise in adult education and training, and her above-and-beyond work ethic, she is undoubtedly the best fit to fill the role of CJC Development Director.
"I have seen and heard of so many lives being changed through this program," declared Debi. "I have watched women blossom as they go through the program, gaining confidence and discovering themselves. I am a life-long learner and dreamer and search for ways to make our world just a bit better. I look forward to partnering with the Board to set a vision, along with a long term plan for growth and continued success. In the words of Harriet Tubman: 'Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.'"
Heckler says, "Christian Job Corps is blessed to have Debi Watson join our team. She is outstanding and has been an active and beneficial part of the community for many years. She is a dreamer making her passion a reality."
